Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Astrophysics - West Virginia University

The Department of Physics at West Virginia University invites applications for a faculty position in astrophysics. The astrophysics group at WVU consists of three professors, one post-doc, ten graduate students, and three undergraduate students. The group specializes in studies of compact objects and galaxy formation and evolution in the local universe (see http://astro.wvu.edu for a description of our current activities) and works in close collaboration with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, and in particular is a major user of the observatory facilities in Green Bank, WV.

Qualified candidates in any area of astronomy and astrophysics are encouraged to apply; a preference will be given to observational astronomers with postdoctoral experience and at least some experience in radio astronomy. Minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics; a commitment to teaching astronomy and astrophysics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; and evidence of potential to achieve a record of excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate is expected to obtain external funding and develop a nationally recognized research program. The WVU Physics Department consists of 18 tenured and tenure-track faculty, three research faculty, seven postdoctoral researchers, and 62 graduate students. The largest research areas are condensed matter physics, astrophysics, and plasma physics. Postdoc position in “Studies of Fundamental Physics using Pulsar Observations”

We are advertising for a 3-year postdoctoral research fellow to work at the CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science (previously known as the ATNF) in Sydney, Australia. The successful candidate will engage in pulsar timing research. The postdoc will have access to data taken as part of the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array project and the timing of 160 pulsars for the Fermi Gamma-Ray Observatory mission. We require a dedicated and skilled individual to 1) carry out independent research using these data sets, 2) carry out observations for these projects and 3) support the data reduction.

Applications are invited for an Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pulsars, a three-year post-doctoral appointment at the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF), Australia’s premier radio astronomical facility. The successful applicant will be based in Sydney, one of the world’s major cities.

We are seeking a dynamic postdoctoral researcher with a background in observational pulsar astronomy and related computing to play a major role in the next generation pulsar survey with the Parkes telescope. The Fellow will work with Dr Simon Johnston and with other collaborators on the survey team to ensure a succesful outcome from the survey.
